Background. One of the most important and actively developing sectors of the food industry today is Russian meat processing industry. The problem of development of this branch of the national economy is key in current conditions, which is determined, firstly, by the country’s long-term national interests in the field of ensuring food security, and secondly, by the needs of expanding markets for meat products. This topic acquires considerable relevance in the conditions of anti-Russian sanctions. The purpose of the study is to analyze the current situation and future trends in the development of the meat processing industry in Russia, and the export opportunities of the Russian meat-processing industry.
Materials and methods. Realization of research goals was achieved on the basis of the study of statistical data on growth rates of food industry, export of meat products, and forecast of sausages exports. The research methodology is based on the system approach.
Results. Analysis of the current state of Russian food industry, dynamics and structure of exports of meat products, prospects for export of meat to China and the CIS countries is conducted. The activities of leading Russian companies on the supply of product from the manufacturer to foreign partners are considered.
Conclusions. The introduction of sanctions by Europe and the US on the food export to Russia led to growth of the Russian food industry. The sale of meat for export is becoming more attractive for large producers. There is a growing emphasis on the part of government regarding foreign trade policy. Today, there are close trade ties for the supply of meat to China and some countries of the post-Soviet space, but export prospects for the markets of other foreign countries are uncertain.
